uh, so to my understanding, superboy-prime is from earth prime, where superman is just a fictional character..... so hes a super hero from a planet where super heroes are just fake... right?

No Superboy prime is from Earth prime which was destroyed in the original crisis on infinite earths back in the late 80s. He has been trapped in a pocket dimension until he and superman prime escaped and attack the earth we know today, because the hero's where not living up to his ideals of what they should. After a major war "Infinity crisis" he was beaten and imprisoned in a lead container orbiting a red sun by the green lantern corps. He was release recently by the Senestro corps who then, with his help, launched another attack on earth. In the next issue he goes head to head with ION who, it appears, has all the powers of superman and the power of ION which is the force the green lanterns channel though their rings.

Should be a great fight.

In DC terms, Earth Prime is the 50's version of superheroes. They have the 50's ideal to everything... there was the older, dad-like Superman, and Superboy.

They survived the Crisis on Infinite Earths, but hated the one world that survived. They wanted their Earth back, so they decided to "teach the heroes a lesson" on the current DC Earth, Earth 1. Fights ensue. Superboy Prime kills Superboy as he goes through his mental break and it takes all of the speedsters to take Superboy Prime to a different dimension. Superboy Prime figures out how to get back, so the speedsters put all of the "speed-force" into Bart-Allen... Kid-Flash, who beats SB Prime back... warns everyone.

The current Superman and Superman Prime, beat the crap out of each other, but end up teaming up to take out Superboy Prime. Superman Prime, supposedly gives his life heroicly(but not sure... as Superman is bad at staying dead), to stop Superboy Prime from killing everyone.

While setting the speed force right, Bart Allen is beaten to death by the Rogues' Gallery and Wally West comes back and reclaims his Flash title.

Superboy Prime was imprisoned, as Steve said, in a lead box in a Red Star by 100 green laterns watching him at all times.
The Sinestro Corps killed those lanterns and freed him. They want to gather all of the people who cause fear in the universe... Parallax, Superboy Prime, Cyborg Superman, the Anitmonitor... just to name a few.

Kyle Rayner lost the Ion ability, which is actually an alien being (like Parallax) that takes a host.

The Guardians of the Universe put the Ion creature in a new host, a dude named Sodam Yat, who is Daxamite... a cousin planet of the Kryptonians. The main fight is on Earth, so he is getting the charge that Superman gets from the yellow sun. So basically, he is becoming one tough mo-fo.

Thought I'd tell the story, cause this is what I read.

That's Earth-2. Earth Prime is just like the real world, except someone somehow got superpowers... then the Earth was destroyed before he could really become Superboy.

That is a nice concise summary, though. I just hate Superman on general principle, so any story where a Superman is killed automatically gets points with me. :)

ya well, thats what started the confusion
Superman-Prime is from the parallel Earth known as Earth Prime, in which Superman and the other DC superheroes only exist as fictional characters. Unable to let go of his former life and his "destiny" as Earth's greatest hero, his convictions and morals are warped by years of solitude in a "paradise" dimension.

Okay, then Earth-prime is a world where everyone reads the comics about Earth-2... and somehow, the Earth prime fictional characters are real... kinda like the Earth-2 ones.
And they are all nuts and want to kill each other because they are all fictional.
